June Visit | Early Summer

Weather

Prepare for warm or even hot weather, depending on the time of day and when you visit in June when booking a tour during this summer month.

Early mornings are still comfortable with temps around 65°F (18°C). However, in the afternoons temperatures here can reach highs around 85–90°F (29–32°C).

Inside the canyon, it has slightly cooler temperatures: about 10°F (5–6°C), which is a nice relief if you visit on a hot day in June. Just keep in mind that it can be very windy and ‘dusty’.

Rain: June is part of the dry season in Antelope Canyon, so rain and flash floods are highly unlikely. However, we suggest checking the weather forecast before the day before your tour, especially at the end of June! If severe weather does occur, your tour operator will ensure your safety, even if that means rescheduling your visit.

You will be informed via email or via a text in case a tour will be canceled. Our tour operators are very reliable and will let you know as early as possible.

Weather report by one of our visitors:

“Be prepared for the weather! We went in June, and it was extremely windy to the point that all guides were wearing mouth scarves, long pants, and sleeves as a protection against the sand! However, it was still a beautiful and fantastic experience. Our was excellent and helped us take pictures and set the camera settings as well as the settings in my iPhone.”

Tours | Time Slots

All the Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon tour operators are fully operational in June. Midday tours are especially popular because of the incredible light beams. Thus, it’s essential to book well in advance.

💡 You cannot go on your own! Booking a guided tour is necessary for both Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon since the area is located on Navajo land. Please don’t just drive to the canyon without having booked a tour first!

From one of our visitors:Our tour guide Roger was fantastic. He showed us awesome scenes, and took pictures for us and our group. He sang an amazing Navajo song in the hollow area. I rate Mr. him with five out of five stars!”

Visitor Testimonial

“We went on June 11th (10:15 am). The vehicle taking us to the canyon was an SUV with an air condition. It was comfortable as it wasn’t an open truck. Our wonderful guide provided a great service and helped take very lovely photos.

Bring a mask with you if your tour is during the prime time to see the light coming down from the top. We are able to see them on our tour, although the next time slot would’ve been even better. During the tour, they throw the sand ‘in the beam’ for the amazing photos, and it’s very dusty in the canyon.”

Upper vs. Lower Antelope Canyon

  • Upper Antelope Canyon: This is the part of the canyon with the stunning and popular light beams. The floors are mostly flat here, which means it’s easier to walk. However, it can get crowded, especially during the midday tours when the light beams happen.
  • Lower Antelope Canyon: This canyon is a bit more challenging. The reason for that is stairs/ladders and narrow passages. Some light beams can happen here, but not as often as in Upper Antelope. Still, you can enjoy beautiful colors and sometimes a slightly quieter experience.

The Light Beams in June

The light beams in Antelope Canyon are at their very best in June, July, and August because the sun is at its highest point in the sky. This creates brilliant and long-lasting beams of light inside the canyon. In June, the beams are bright, well-defined, and consistent on sunny days.

Those gorgeous sunbeams appear in the late morning until the early afternoon in the upper part. So, if you are planning to take beautiful photos or just want to experience this place at its most magical time, June is one of the best months to visit Upper Antelope Canyon.

💡 Keep in mind that there are no light beams on a cloudy day! Even when you book a tour around noon in June.

Time of Day to See the Beams

The beams are visible midday, typically between 11 AM and 1:30 PM, but only when it’s sunny. Cloudy days will block the beams. To improve your chances of seeing them, book a tour starting around 10:30 AM, 11:00 AM, or 12:00 PM. These times ensure you’ll be inside the canyon at the perfect moment for the beams.

Crowds

June is one of the busiest months at Antelope Canyon due to the incredible light beams and summer travel season. Midday tours, in particular, can be crowded. If you want to avoid large groups, consider visiting early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

These times are quieter, but you’ll miss the light beams. For the best experience, book your preferred tour time well in advance and prepare for some company while enjoying the canyon’s beauty.

Visitor report:

“I had heard a lot of complaints about crowds before our visit. Because of these complaints, I was a little worried that I would be disappointed when booking a midday tour. However, it was worth the cost of the tour and the crowds to be able to see this stunning place. If you go in expecting it to be crowded, then I think you will be able to enjoy yourself.”

What to Wear

We recommend light and breathable clothing for a June visit. Be prepared for even higher temps toward the end of the month.

Most of the visitors wear a hat, sunscreen, long-sleeve shirt, mask, and sunglasses!

Comfy walking shoes are essential for navigating the sandy and uneven canyon floor. Our tip is to wear comfortable sneakers. Bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated. This is even more important if you’re visiting during the warmer parts of the day, around midday or in the afternoon.

June is a really great month, and every visitor we talked to enjoyed it a lot. Just make sure to book the right tour and use our calendar.
